Tom Flis, Behavioral Services Manager at Sheppard Pratt Health System, is a board certified and licensed behavior analyst and licensed clinical professional counselor who has more than 15 years of experience working with children and adults diagnosed with a developmental disability across multiple settings, including in-home, schools, inpatient, outpatient, and out in the community.
With an increasing trend in longer stays for psychiatric patients in emergency departments and medical centers, it has become paramount that these facilities develop the resources and tools to handle crisis situations. This presentation will review preventative and management strategies as it relates to psychiatric crises as well as cover patient and staff supports, programming, and environmental considerations.
