Design Contest

The Children’s Home is excited to announce its first Open Call to artists!

The Children’s Home is seeking original design submissions for our 1st Annual Design Competition. The winning submission will become The Children’s Home 2022 Ornament and made available to donors who are members of our Friends Club and they will also be available for purchase.

  • The Pediatric Specialty Hospital– 30 bed pediatric hospital serving over 200 kids annually
  • Child’s Way® Daycare– dually licensed and accredited daycare for medically complex children, capacity to serve 40 children from ages 0-21
  • Adoption and Permanency– counseling services, infant placement, adoption through foster care, search and reunion, placed over 7,000 infants and children since founding in 1893
  • Pediatric VIEW– innovative program focused on Cortical Visual Impairment, served over 150 children since September 2021

  • Application open: June 1st, 2022
  • Submission date: July 31st, 2022
  • Jury date: August 2nd, 2022
  • Opening (Virtual Gallery): August 8th, 2022
  • Closing (Virtual Gallery): August 31st, 2022

  • Design must include concepts related to The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center
    • Familiarize yourself by browsing our website
  • Artwork must be submitted as digital files or vector images.
    • Note that design must be able to be sized to 2 1/8-inch circle, as it will be converted into a die for cutting metal to create ornaments (only one side of the ornament will feature a design)
  • Place the year “2022” and artist signature in the design (does not have to be prominent)
  • Artists will provide resume/CV/vitae and links to digital portfolio
  • Artists may submit only one entry
  • Submissions will not be limited to a geographic location
  • There are no fees to enter the competition
  • Winner will receive one (1) $250 gift card, two (2) tickets to our Annual Shake Your Booties Gala, five (5)  ornaments for friends and family, and coverage in our newsletter, on our website and social media

By submitting work to The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh for the 1st Annual Design Competition, The Children’s Home shall have perpetual intellectual property rights over prize-winning works and other non-winning works it may acquire, including the right to use, produce or reproduce, prepare derivative works of the designs for whatever purpose and whichever form as may be deemed fit by (competition sponsor/organizer) without further compensation to the artist or his heirs and assignees. Furthermore, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners may not use their entries for any other purpose or submit their entries to other competitions/contests.
