Ready. Set. Home! launches this spring at our Pediatric Specialty Hospital – learn more and check out our video preview
At The Children’s Home our Pediatric Specialty Hospital is unique. Families leave our facility knowing that they will never owe money for a medical bill. During their child’s in-patient stay, families become a critical part of the daily care plan, which is created to fit the specific needs of their child. These families are encouraged to stay on site at the patient’s bedside or within the Lemieux Family Center with fully equipped family living areas and 8 private rooms which offer a comfortable, home-like environment.
But perhaps most notably, for decades, our clinical staff has worked to not only provide the highest level of care to patients but also teach parents and guardians how to provide this care.
With the support of Highmark and our dedicated staff, Ready. Set. Home! was born. A nine-part educational video series geared toward family caregivers, Ready. Set. Home! covers a range of complex and everyday tasks to ensure each family has the tools they need to keep their child healthy at home.
Our video series covers the following topics:
- Caring for a Central Line
- Changing a Tracheostomy Tube
- Go Bag
- G-tube Care
- Nesting with Your Child
- Packing Your Kid Kart
- Trach Care
- Traveling with Medical Equipment
- Troubleshooting Tracheostomy Emergencies
This spring, working with Anthem Video, we will launch the Ready. Set. Home! streaming channel so families can easily tune in and learn from within our hospital or from home. Companion printed materials are also in production to provide another teaching tool for clinical staff and families.
An exciting new project that can serve as a model for other hospitals, Ready. Set. Home! received the Society of Pediatric Nurses (SPN) 2021 Innovation Award in April. This award aims to identify and recognize new and creative approaches that will provide better quality care for children and their families.
