Grand Opening of New Inclusive Playground!
August 18, 2019 @ 12:00 am

Join The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family center to celebrate our new, inclusive playground on Sunday August 18th from 11AM-2PM!
Don’t miss volunteer and honoree, Pittsburgh Steeler, Josh Dobbs for the ribbon cutting ceremony!
Enjoy FREE Roadrunners Hot Dawgs, ice cream, live music, kids crafts, yard games and play on the brand new playground. This is a FREE community event, open to the public!
The Children’s Home playground is currently undergoing a makeover this summer to provide an inclusive design for not only Child’s Way and Hospital families, but for our community. It will feature double wide bridges and ramps, wheelchair swings and sensory tunnels. The sensory equipment will be designed to develop motor skills like coordination and upper body strength along with cognitive skills like problem solving. For us, accessibility is not simply getting a child with limited mobility onto the playground, but taking into consideration their sensory and developmental needs.
The Children’s Home will be recognizing volunteer Josh Dobbs with the Hometown Hero award to honor his altruism toward medically fragile kids in Child’s Way. Josh has regularly visited Child’s Way since October of 2018 and despite his busy schedule, made each child feel as if they were the most important part of his day. Josh has served as a tremendous friend and role model, and we hope that you will join us in storming the playground together for the first time!
