On Monday, May 11, 2009, Scooter the cat made a special visit to see the children at Child’s Way®, the day care for medically fragile children ages birth to 8 at The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center.

“Taking Scooter to meet the children was really important to me,” said Betsy Kennon, Scooter’s owner. “I wanted the children to learn to interact with Scooter even though he is different than other animals.”
Scooter is a disabled cat in a “kitty wheelchair” whose back legs were paralyzed after being hit by a car. The therapy cat serves as an inspiration for the children at Child’s Way because of his medical condition. He is able to live a fulfilling life and enjoys the opportunity to play with the children at Child’s Way.
The children enjoyed the company of Scooter as they sat in a circle, petting him, and watching as he visited each of the kids. Scooter helps the children learn compassion with each visit to Child’s Way. His visit on the second Monday of each month is greatly anticipated by each of the children.
