Will and Heather

Will_and_Heather

Hello!

We are excited that you are taking the time to get to know a little bit about us. It seems that we already have something in common – life has thrown an unexpected curve in our paths, and somehow, those paths have crossed.

When we got married in 2008, we had already been together for four years and we were ready to start our family right away. Things didn't work out the "old fashioned way." Our journey through every possible option to start a family has helped us to understand what it means to love a child – even one we haven't met face-to-face – at least not yet.

Thank you for taking the time to visit with us today!

About Will – by Heather

When you first meet Will, you might think that he is rather shy, I know I did, at least until our first date. It took one afternoon at the Pittsburgh Zoo, where my animal/biology-loving husband was in his element, and I knew he was an incredibly smart, funny, and above all caring man.

Over the last few years, I have come to appreciate Will's sense of humor more than anything. He is always ready with a joke to make me laugh, even when I want to cry. His strength and support are never-ending. I can't imagine going through the ups and downs of life with anyone else.

Our friends often joke about Will being the "baby-whisperer" because he tends to gravitate to the kids at any event, and they love to play with him as well. Even early in our relationship, I would watch Will with our niece and nephews and it was easy to picture him with our children in the future. As a Science teacher, Will has summers off, and I know he is eager to take our children camping, hiking, and fishing in the great outdoors where he enjoys spending time.

About Heather – by Will

When I met Heather, I could tell right away that she was very outgoing and enjoyed life. Our early conversations showed me that she had a kind and caring nature. Not only was she intelligent, she was also able to tolerate my jokes! She was everything that I was looking for in a partner.

Her nurturing side is evident in the way that she cares for me – especially when I am sick. She is the heart of our relationship and has all the traits anyone could ever want in a wife and mother. I can't imagine starting a family with anyone else.

As a social studies teacher, Heather loves to travel and learn about other cultures. She is such a creative person and enjoys creating scrapbooks of her trips and can't wait to start a book for our child about their story and journey. She is always taking pictures – you'll rarely see her without her camera – so our new addition will surely be her inspiration.

Family & Friends

If there is one thing that we have learned, it's that "family" is an ever-evolving term. To us, family isn't about blood, a title, or a piece of paper. Family is about love and loving one another. So, that is how we define our family – the ones that we love – all of them!

Our "Kids"

Abby and Kenna are our Scottish Terriers. They are full of energy but equally full of love! Maggie is the most recent addition – she joined us when we bought our house and fenced in our yard. All three pups love it when we have company, especially if there are children who will run around with them!

Our three girls bring SO much joy to our lives! They are anxiously awaiting a little one to play with outside on warm summer days and to cuddle with in the cold winter nights!

Our families

Will's family is a big part of our lives. We spend quite a bit of time with them whenever we can. Each summer we take a trip to the beach and rent a house for all of us to share. It has become quite a tradition. Throughout the year, everyone meets up at my mom's house to have "Family Fun" nights. Dinner, board games, and cards are usually on the agenda, but sometimes we all just like to watch a movie together – especially at the holidays! If the weather is right, you'll likely catch all of us sled riding in the front yard! Our niece and nephews are already looking forward to meeting their new cousin.

Growing up, Heather's immediate family was rather small. Heather and her mom moved in with their grandparents when Heather was young, so she had the privilege of living with them for most of her life. Today, her mom lives only 15 minutes away, in the house Heather grew up in, and her aunt and uncle are only five minutes down the road. We spent the better part of the last three years taking care of Heather's grandfather together before he passed, and we can't put into words how fortunate we were to have the full support of family. Everyone is excited about our decision to start a family in general, and they are more supportive than we could have hoped about doing so through adoption. Heather's mom can hardly wait to be called Grandma!

Our "Extended" Family

Our friends are our family in every sense of the word – we share all of the wonderful events of life and support each other when times are tough. We know that the baby we welcome into our home will be also be welcomed into our 'extended' family and surrounded by love from everyone in our lives, young and old, without hesitation or reservation. We are so blessed to have such tremendous support!

Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to introduce ourselves. We wish you strength and love in your journey, and we would welcome the opportunity to meet you!

All our best,

Heather & Will
