Growing Our Family Tree
We're Sarah and Phil and we're so excited to continue growing our family through adoption! We know you want the best life for your child and we greatly respect that. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and consider our family.
How we Met: (written by Sarah)
Phil and I were high school sweethearts. On our first date we went miniature golfing and with the tickets he won, Phil bought me a plastic spider ring. Six years after that first date Phil took me back to the same miniature golf place, but this time it was late at night and pouring rain. Phil got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. When I said yes, Phil opened up the ring box and inside was a plastic spider ring, just like the one he had given me years before (he had the real ring in his pocket). We just celebrated our ten year wedding anniversary and I can honestly say that we are closer now than ever. We are best friends and are very much in love. We will always be here for each other no matter what.
Our Choice to Adopt:
We have two sons named Nicolai (age 5) and Noah (age 2). We love children and all of the humor, kindness, (and chaos!) they bring to our lives. Sarah has had difficult pregnancies with complications and several miscarriages. We have decided to welcome our third child through adoption. We welcome a child of any race, and are looking forward to celebrating his or her heritage and ethnic background. We think of adoption as a positive and loving way for families to come together. If you choose for your child to join our family, we would be happy to send you letters, pictures, and videos over the years so that you can see that your child is progressing and thriving. We will always talk about our child's adoption positively, and you will always hold a special place in the heart of our family. ♥
Our Home and How we Spend our Time:
Our home is in a very safe, family friendly neighborhood 20 minutes North of Pittsburgh. On warm summer nights we invite friends over for movies in the backyard. It's so fun to lay under the stars, watching movies and eating popcorn. Sarah, age 32, is a stay at home Mom. Phil, age 35, is a computer engineer who works ten minutes from home. On the weekends you can find us shopping in the Strip District (Phil's favorite place), exploring the gardens at Phipps (Sarah's favorite place), playing at the Science Center (Nic's favorite place), or digging in the dirt in our backyard (Noah's favorite place). We also love to explore new towns, parks, and restaurants. At home, we spend a lot of time cuddling with our dog, Sasha, and our cat, Mischief. They are gentle animals who bring a lot of love to our family. Sarah and Phil's parents visit often and take the kids to the zoo, movies, the park, and the beach. Phil's sister has three children who love to hang out with Nic and Noah. We also have a wonderful network of close friends with young children that we see daily. We even go camping at Raccoon Creek State Park every summer with other families and we all have a blast.
Education and a Love of Learning:
Our biggest family value is education and growing a love for learning and exploring. We both have master's degrees (Sarah's is in Psychology and Phil's is in Computer Science) and we want our children to have the opportunity to attend good colleges and chose careers that make them happy and fulfilled. We have education savings accounts for each child and add money to them every month. Sarah is the classroom mom at Nic's school and is a member of the board of directors. She loves to teach kids about nature, art, and the diverse and wonderful world around us. She and the kids can be found planting veggies, watching for butterflies and birds and doing messy art projects. Phil is a very math/science oriented person who loves to build and create. He is a very involved father and spends time everyday with the kids; reading books, building Lego towers, and playing video games. We love to play board games and have spent many hours at the kitchen table drinking homemade rootbeer and playing games. We are coaches for a creativity-building kids' program called "Destination Imagination" and will continue to make learning a fun and integral part of our home.
