BJ and Elizabeth

Hi! We are BJ and Elizabeth – a happy and loving couple that can’t wait to start a family. We’re so thankful that you’re interested in learning more about us. We’re glad to share our story with you and to tell you why we’ve decided to adopt. We know you want to make the best decision possible for your child and we assure you that he/she will always know their birth story. Thank you for considering us as adoptive parents.

About Us
We’re best friends. Laughter is an important part of our life, and it’s our sense of humor, along with strong family roots, and faith that has seen us through good times and bad. We've known each other since graduate school and during that time, we’ve built a foundation of trust, appreciation, mutual respect, and love. Together we make a great team. Our fondest memories are of the times we spend together. We like to travel but we also enjoy just being outdoors, especially in our backyard; gardening, grilling, or just relaxing in the hammock or on our deck. We were married on a beautiful autumn day five years ago. Our wedding was a celebration of love, family, and friends. We honeymooned in Disney World since one of us (Elizabeth) was a big Disney fan, and the other (BJ) had never been. We thought it would be a great place to celebrate the start of our new life together-- Turns out that Elizabeth was right to love Disney, and we’ve been back several times.

Family
We realize that our family is our foundation. We both grew up in families that taught us to love unconditionally and cherish life. Elizabeth was born and raised in a small town in northeastern Pennsylvania. Her parents still live in the same house that she and her older sister grew up in. Elizabeth was very fortunate to have her grandmother live with them until she was 13 years old. Family is very important to Elizabeth and she cherishes the memories of three generations living together.

BJ was born and raised in a small town in western Pennsylvania. He has nine brothers and sisters so the house was always “active”. BJ’s mom still lives in the house where all the children grew up and where they all return for special events and holidays. BJ remains close to his mother, nine siblings, seven in-laws and 17 nieces and nephews. Family traditions are very important to us and we look forward to passing them on to our child.

Our Home
We live on a tree-lined street in a college town within walking distance of schools, parks and a quaint downtown. We are close enough to Pittsburgh to enjoy all the city has to offer, but far enough away to enjoy true small town living. Our house is very special to us. We both like to do things with our hands so we’ve worked hard to make the house our home. Next we added “Jack”, our Westie-mix dog, to the household. We adopted Jack from a shelter and he instantly worked his way into our hearts. He is a great dog, good with strangers and children. We both grew up with dogs and we think pets help make the home complete.

We love our house, our neighborhood and town. We have some wonderful neighbors. There’s a mix of older and younger people, some with young children and others who act like grandparents to us. It’s like the neighborhoods we both remember from our childhood.

Faith
Our faith is what keeps us going. We believe our faith helps center us and, in addition to family, provides us support and strength. We were raised as Roman Catholics and we remain active in our church.

Education
We value education and the opportunities it provides. We both came from families that encouraged us to reach our full potential. We will support our child’s dreams and aspirations. We’re very fortunate to both work in a profession that will allow us to easily provide our child with educational opportunities. Elizabeth works for a local university and is very lucky to love her job and the work she does with college students. BJ works at a small college in the area and like Elizabeth, he recognizes the value of higher education and enjoys his work. Our jobs provide us a great deal of flexibility and a very supportive work environment.

Right from the start, we knew we wanted children. As we traveled the road of infertility for three years, our relationship only strengthened—as did our desire to become parents. We truly understand the importance of providing a safe and loving home and know we’re ready to welcome a child into our life. Adoption is a rare gift and we would like to be able to offer you the peace of mind in the years to come to know that your child is happy, loved and thriving. We understand the importance and value of being able to get to know you. Thank you for considering us. We hope we have given you a glimpse into our life and how honored we would be to welcome your child into our family. We are working with The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh, a licensed adoption agency.
