Chuck and Josh

Hello!
We are Chuck and Josh. Thank you for taking the time to read our letter. Your choice to create an adoption plan for your child takes great courage and thoughtfulness and we hope that as you read this letter, you will get to know more about us, our life together and our dream of growing our family tree through adoption.
ABOUT US. . .
We like to tell friends and family that finding each other was meant to be. In our freshman year at the University of Pittsburgh, we lived next door to each other in the dorms, but never met. Our sophomore year, we had classes together, yet still never met. Months later we were introduced by a mutual friend and we both quickly realized we had found a lifelong partner. After 9 years together, we are happier than ever. We make a great team. We love to laugh and have fun together. Whether it is an “I Love You” card secretly placed in a briefcase, or a bunch of flowers laying on the kitchen counter, each one of us knows just how to make the other smile.
Together we built our home 4 years ago in a suburb about 7 miles from downtown Pittsburgh. Our home is our oasis from the work day. Located in a great school district, our new community has a private pool, walking trails and sports court. We’re greeted every day by our 3 year old dog, Murphy, a Collie-Shepherd mix who we rescued 2 years ago. Murphy is a gentle-giant who loves everyone and likes to think that even at 70 pounds he’s a perfect lap dog!
We love Pittsburgh and take full advantage of everything the city has to offer. We enjoy attending theater, going to arts festivals and trying new restaurants. When we need a city-break we often head to Ohiopyle, PA and spend a day relaxing and exploring the river and trails. We are very passionate about traveling and are excited to share our future journeys with our child. A few of our favorite spots are Oak Island, NC, New York, NY and San Francisco, CA. We also love spending quiet time at home with Murphy, working on home improvement projects or entertaining family and friends in our home. This year we hosted our first Thanksgiving for Josh’s family of 18 people! Holiday’s are a special time for us. We both come from large families who love holiday traditions. From decorating the Christmas tree to family cook-outs to Easter egg hunts, we are eager to share these traditions and begin new ones with a child.
ABOUT CHUCK . . .
Chuck grew up about an hour and a half south of Pittsburgh on a farm with his parents and younger sister. Chuck has a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins, most of whom live in the Pittsburgh area. Today, Chuck is a Certified Pediatric Nurse and Clinical Leader and has been for 10 years. Chuck is a natural care giver. His compassionate and loving nature has earned him great respect with the children he cares for, their families and his coworkers. Chuck enjoys the outdoors, photography and most of all, he loves to cook. (and Josh loves Chuck’s cooking!) Chuck is a master at opening up the pantry and putting together an amazing meal from scratch.
ABOUT JOSH . . .
Josh grew up in a suburb of Pittsburgh with his parents and older brother. Josh was very active throughout his school years and continues to be very active today. Josh's outgoing and fun-loving personality lends itself to his volunteer work with children at Head Start. Josh is very creative, dedicated and loyal; these traits help him excel in his job as a Project Manager and Assistant Vice President at a Pittsburgh bank where he's worked for 7 years. Josh is also an avid bike rider and talented musician. Many Sundays start off with him playing on our piano while Chuck makes breakfast. Just like Chuck, Josh is part of a large extended family.
OUR FUTURE . . .
Since the very beginning of our relationship we have talked about our hope of becoming parents and raising a child. To share our lives, passion and love with a child is a gift we’ve dreamed about for years. Both of our families are extremely supportive of our decision to adopt. With their support, we are committed to raising a child with unconditional love. We will provide a stable home and give our child a life filled with family, friends, education, strong values and diverse life experiences. Through a strong education, we will foster our child’s unique gifts and encourage them to pursue their individual interests and ambitions.
We acknowledge that as parents in a same-sex relationship our family may be considered “non- traditional.” We believe that this uniqueness to our family tree, will help us as two loving dads to reinforce positive family values.
We are very committed to open adoption because we believe that it is truly the healthiest approach for everyone – the birth family, the adoptive parents and most importantly, the child. We plan for our child to grow up fully knowing his/her own story so that they may know and appreciate the story of their complete family tree.
We are working with The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh, a licensed adoption agency. If you have any questions, they can be reached at 1-800-961-7704 or 412-441-4884; please ask for a birthparent counselor.
