The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center held its Second Annual luncheon event, The Children’s HOMEtown Hero Luncheon on Friday, November 1, 2013 at the Omni William Penn Hotel, with a crowd of 250, with all proceeds benefiting the programs of The Children’s Home & Lemieux Family Center.
Guests were treated to an afternoon of entertainment with served lunch, a silent auction and raffle and a special program by Hometown Hero award winner, Rick Sebak. Additionally, Pittsburgh Mayor Elect, Bill Peduto, joined the event to present a special proclamation, declaring November 1, Rick Sebak Day, in the City of Pittsburgh.
For more than twenty-five years Rick Sebak has written, produced, and narrated specials for WQED and PBS, the most acclaimed of which emphasize the rich history and unique charms of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania. Rick’s 1988 documentary Kennywood Memories, about the famous Pittsburgh amusement park, became the first film in WQED’s Pittsburgh History Series. Since then, Rick’s series has grown by an additional twenty films, all of which highlight the region’s people, places, and history.
“Not only has Rick’s work illuminated Pittsburgh’s distinct culture, but it has also allowed Rick himself to become part of the fabric of the region. The Children’s Home & Lemieux Family Center was delighted to honor Rick as this year’s Hometown Hero,” said Pamela Schanwald, CEO of The Children’s Home & Lemieux Family Center.
All proceeds raised from The Children’s HOMEtown Hero Luncheon directly supports the programs of The Children’s Home & Lemieux Family Center: Adoption, Child’s Way, and the Pediatric Specialty Hospital.
