Foster Parents Honored as Angels in Adoption
10/1/2009
The Adoption program at The Children’s Home & Lemieux Family Center values supporting birthparents while they make decisions about the future of their child’s care. One of the unique services offered at The Children’s Home to help support birthparents is a private foster parenting program. Recently, this unique service has earned high acclaim as two of The Children’s Home’s own foster parents, Thomas and Theresa Stacy, were chosen as recipients of a national Angels in Adoption™ award.
The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute’s Angels in Adoption™ program provides members of Congress the opportunity to honor individuals and entities that have made an extraordinary contribution to children in need of homes.
The Stacy’s have cared for over 40 infants with the utmost care and love since 1990, when they became foster parents. It is through their non-judgmental support to birth and adoptive families, as well as their position as role-models for other foster families, that has made their selection no surprise to The Children’s Home.
The Stacy’s traveled to Washington D.C. on September 30, 2009, where they participated in three days of events. The events were designed to train attendees how to further utilize their personal experiences with foster parenting and to celebrate their hard work and dedication to adoption.
This marks the third year in a row that an individual or entity from The Children’s Home was honored with this award. Birthmother Kelly Ulonska received the award in 2007 and the Adoption program at The Children’s Home was honored last year for outstanding advocacy in open adoption.
