The Great BIG Wish

12/3/2009

This holiday season, we would like to introduce you to Cody, a very special three-year-old former patient of our Pediatric Specialty Hospital and current Child’s Way® medical day care student. When Cody was just one hour old, paramedics and police found him barely alive with no mother or father to hold him and love him. Diagnosed with Jarcho-Levin Syndrome, which requires him to undergo surgeries to expand his ribs every six months, Cody also requires a feeding tube and continual oxygen.

Cody was not expected live, but he is a survivor! And so is his mommy, Jackie, who fought and won a fierce battle with cancer. She embraced Cody and fell madly in love with him after his maternal grandmother, Jackie's closest friend, could not fully handle the constant and specialized care Cody required. Jackie learned how to care for Cody at our Pediatric Specialty Hospital, where she spent months learning from our doctors, nurses, and therapists, how to manage his specialized treatments. What a great BIG gift and blessing to see Cody heal, grow, learn, and play like other children!

In order to care for other sick and medically fragile children in our area, we are asking you to make a Great BIG Wish on our special ornaments and send it in with your Great BIG Wish holiday donation today. Our holiday goal is to raise $45,000 to keep our facilities and programs for these children and their families operational. All of the ornaments we receive before the holidays will be hung up at The Children's Home & Lemieux Family Center by Cody and his buddies at Child’s Way, so everyone can see your Great BIG Wish!

Please send in the attached Great BIG Wish ornament today, along with your holiday donation to help these special children receive the care they need and deserve. Happy Holidays!
