Justin and Laura
Hi, we’re Laura, Justin and Everett. We’re excited about the opportunity to expand our family and feel honored that you’re taking the time to read our letter. We hope this will give you a sense of who we are and what type of environment we can provide for this child. We are interested in adopting a child of any race and are supportive of an open adoption.
This is Us
We’ve been a couple for over 12 years and met as grad students. Our first date was when Laura (mistakenly) thought Justin invited her to be his date at a wedding and agreed to accompany him on the 28 hr road trip. We had a long time to get to know each other and have been inseparable ever since. Our life has been an exciting journey, and we’ve been lucky to support each other through every twist and turn. We value diversity and have lived in multiple countries together.
We also love the outdoors and got married at the botanical gardens at the Indianapolis zoo. In 2014, Everett was born and added another layer of excitement to our lives. We enjoy every moment with him, spending hours reading, doing puzzles and playing at parks. We come to adoption with excitement and anticipation. Due to medical issues after Everett’s birth, we are not able to biologically have more children. We know Everett will be a great older brother to another child. He is sweet, patient, playful and would love to read books and play with a sibling.
Between both of us, we’ll have 24 weeks off from work for family leave. We plan to take some weeks together, but have most of the time staggered. This means we can spend over 5 months at home with the child. We have a wonderful full-time nanny who has been caring for Everett in our house for over 2 years. The plan is that she will continue to care for both children during the day after we return to work.
Laura: Crafty world traveler
I was born in State College, PA and spent my early childhood on the East coast. My best friend is my younger sister and we’ve been very close ever since we were little. Later on, our family moved to Indianapolis, IN, where I grew up and went to college. I studied German and Business, which led to me working in Europe, South America, Asia and the US. Now I work in Marketing Strategy at a manufacturing company in Pittsburgh. In my free time, I like gardening, running and cooking. I used to write poems, and my winning ‘Ode to Tater Tots’ got me a free 1-year supply of Tater Tots from Ore Ida.
Justin: Designer and builder
I was born and raised in Wichita, KS. I have a large, energetic family with many aunts, uncles and cousins in Wichita and we celebrate many family gatherings with them. I studied German in Kansas and Indiana and have worked in Europe and the US. Previously, I was a teacher and now work as a Project Manager at a tech company in Pittsburgh. In my free time, I like wood working, sports and building computers. I know 5 languages and once traveled across Iceland to visit Viking sites and read ruins in old Icelandic.
We live in an historic, diverse neighborhood in Pittsburgh with multiple ethnicities and families on our street. When we looked to purchase our home, we chose the neighborhood for its charming houses, larger yards and walking distance to parks. We just recently renovated our old Victorian home, making the whole third floor a play and arts & craft area. The house has plenty of space for our family, our dogs and one more!
We’re an active family and have many hobbies we like to do in our free time. We’ve traveled the world and have visited over 40 countries, visiting family in Europe often. Exploring other cultures and foods is exciting to us and we’d love to share this with another child. We like hiking and equally enjoy climbing 14ers in Colorado and strolling through Frick Park. On weekends, we spend time as a family at the zoo, the toy lending library, playing games, reading books, having friends over or cheering on the Pirates.
Key values that we want to instill are empathy, community focus and integrity. Maintaining family traditions is also very important and annual activities include decorating cookies as a family, dressing up in goofy costumes for parties, cooking traditional meals, and volunteering for those in need.
While we can’t completely know how you’re feeling right now, we can empathize that this is a complex decision. Life is messy and we’ve also had challenges pop up that we had to work through. Ultimately, we think these experiences make us a stronger family. Our promise to you is that we will raise this child in a loving environment. We will provide structure, guidance and opportunities so they can reach their full potential. Thanks for taking the time to read our letter. We hope you will consider us in your adoption plan and look forward to meeting you.
We’d love to hear from you. You can email, call or text us directly
