Hal and Anne Clair

Thank you for taking the time to get to know us through this letter. We appreciate that you have difficult decisions to make during this process and hope that our letter will help you get to know us and understand if we are the right fit for you. We are interested in adopting a child of any race as we firmly feel that love is love, and look forward to expanding our family as we offer a loving, warm, and caring home for a child.

We are…

Hal and Anne Clair. We met in 2008 in Pittsburgh and immediately were attracted to each other’s sense of humor and generosity. We married in 2012 at the Roberto Clemente Museum surrounded by our families and friends, and live happily in Squirrel Hill with our dogs, Otis and Honey Bear. These two gentle giants snuggle with us, sleep a lot, slobber even more, and are good with children and each other. We also have always known we were meant to be parents and are excited to take this next step to building our family together. The opportunity to adopt is an honor and we look forward to cherishing and caring for the child who will come to us.

About Hal

I was born and raised in the east end of Pittsburgh, and grew up playing sports as my main passion. My fondest memories are with my father playing sports together, whether it was shooting baskets in the backyard, throwing the baseball, or playing tennis. We would have the best conversations and I would learn a lot about life in those times. I hope to share similar moments with my child when I am a parent. I attended Miami University of Ohio for college, where I studied Accounting and Finance. After graduating, I lived in DC for six years and worked various commercial real estate jobs before moving home to Pittsburgh to work in my family’s business. All through this time, I’ve made fast friends who continue to be an important part of my life. I still maintain many of those valuable relationships 20 and 30 years later. I now run the family commercial real estate business and recently started a non-profit AAU basketball program. In my free time, I have been a volunteer basketball coach in my community for the last 16 years. I love working with kids and see them grow into fine young adults. My former players are like family to me; I try to keep up with a lot of them on social media and see them when they in town. In addition to coaching, I also enjoy watching and playing sports, listening to music, watching movies, keeping up on news, walking our dogs, and spending time with my wife and our friends and family. I look forward to the day we can add a child to our family and share all the love and support we have to give.

About Anne Clair

I was born and raised in the DC area to two wonderful parents and a great younger sister. One of my favorite childhood memories was reading with my parents. Each night my father or mother would sit down with my sister and me on the living room couch and would read chapter books to us.

I still remember begging for “just one more chapter” each night when it was time to go to bed. As I grew older, this love of reading developed into a strong appreciation for stories, language and literature, something I hope to share with a child. After graduating from Oberlin College, I moved to Pittsburgh to teach and immediately fell in love with the city and my profession. While teaching, I earned my Master’s of Education from Antioch New England University. I find my work in my school very rewarding as it allows me to engage with families and colleagues from all walks of life, keeps me on my toes, and cultivates long-lasting relationships with students and parents. Some of my former students have returned to my classroom to intern as they discover their own love of teaching, and this is a real joy for me to experience. I couldn’t imagine a better career! When I’m not in the classroom or working at school, I love spending time with Hal, hiking, reading, traveling, listening to and creating music, painting, acting, and rooting for Hal’s basketball teams. Having a child would make each of these experiences even more meaningful, and add an additional, deep purpose to my life.

Our Values & Interests

Our family and friends are very important to us, and we look forward to our child having many extended aunts and uncles who will cherish him/her. We strive to surround ourselves with people who are both similar and different to ourselves, people who push us to grow as human beings, and who reflect our diverse interests. We value creativity and curiosity, and are life-long learners – something we would hope to pass on to our child. It is important to us to raise a child with courage and resiliency, love of nature, compassion for others, and a sense that his or her actions and decisions matter. Together, we work hard to be thoughtful and understanding in our interactions, while being clear about what we believe in.

Our interests as a couple and as individuals are broad and diverse, but whatever we do, it is with humor and joy. We spend time discovering new restaurants in Pittsburgh, attending sports and theater events, laughing, enjoying time with friends and family, traveling, and simply enjoying each other’s company. Individually, we are strong willed people and together our differences compliment each other and make us a stronger couple.

Thank you very much for reading our letter and considering us as you make your adoption plan. We welcome your questions and communication at AnneClairandHal@gmail.com if you would like to get to know us better.
