Bridget

Hello, my name is Bridget McCourt. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I hope it gives you insight into who I am, my everyday life, my hopes and dreams, and the family your baby would have should I be blessed with you choosing me as the adoptive parent of your child.
I am a single woman, currently. Like most little girls, I grew up imagining that I would meet Mr. Right and get married. While I still hope that will happen someday, I know that I am meant to be a mother now. I hope that, as you learn who I am and see the love I have in my heart, you will see that I will provide all of the unconditional love and support your child needs.
Although I will be a single parent, your child will be raised in a very close extended family. I count my parents and my two sisters as the most important blessings in my life. I know that I was lucky to grow up in a home that was filled with love and laughter. Now our family has expanded to include my sisters’ families – including a nephew and two nieces. I see what an amazing experience it is for my sisters to raise their children, and I want to share that with my own child.
Devin, Paige and Claire are three of my favorite people in the world. They are smart, funny, cool, beautiful kids. Spending time with them ranks high on my list of favorite things to do. Drive-in movies, West Virginia camping trips or sleepovers at my house – we always have fun. I feel really privileged to be a part of their lives. And they can’t wait to have a new cousin!
I really enjoyed my childhood, so much so that I bought the house I grew up in from my parents when they moved to Florida! (Or maybe it was just the backyard pool I couldn’t give up!) Mom and Dad stay with me every summer, and we all visit them – and the Orlando parks! – every Easter.
Growing up, we always had animals in our home – dogs, cats, even a hamster once. Now I have a dog and a cat, George and Bailey, named for the main character in “It’s a Wonderful Life” … a family favorite movie! Pets will always be a big part of my home.
To say that I am a sports fan is a huge understatement! I have been from the time that I was little and played every organized sport I could. Maybe my interest is a result of growing up in a neighborhood full of boys and the only thing to do was join the football or wiffle ball game. Or maybe, as the youngest of three girls, my dad figured I was his last chance for a fellow sports nut!
There is not much I like to do more than watch a game with family and friends, rooting on the Steelers, Penguins and, yeah, even the Pirates! Attending Notre Dame football games were some of the best times for me in college.
While I love my hometown, I really enjoy traveling – especially road trips that take the scenic route. I can’t wait for the day when I can take my child on these trips, sharing all of this world’s amazing places and people with him or her. Some friends and I recently drove up to Bar Harbor, Maine – thank heaven for GPS! As trip photographer – another hobby – I got some great pictures. But the best part of any road trip is the music. I think I will remember us singing along to the playlist I put together as much as the places we visited.
Maybe I am just a frustrated rock star! In college, I was in a band – The Sister Chain. (What?! You never heard of us?!?) Although we were a campus favorite, I doubt it was due in any part to my singing or guitar playing! Music will be an important part of my child’s life.
I am very fortunate that my career as a public affairs manager affords me the opportunity to own my home, take vacations and enjoy all of my hobbies. But most importantly, it gives me the financial stability to start a family. My company values a healthy work/life balance and offers me the opportunity to work from home if necessary – a nice option for sick days or doctor appointments. I plan to use a day care less than 10 minutes from my office (close enough to drop by for lunch!) three days per week, with the other two days spent with family.
When I get home from work, I will be able to devote all of my time to your child, as I have both a landscaper and a cleaning service to take care of the routine housework and lawn care. Our time will be spent together.
I can only imagine how challenging this time must be for you. I do know that you love your child very much; that you only want what is best for your child; and – whatever it may be – your decision will be the right one.
Adoption is my first choice for starting a family. Please consider me as the adoptive parent of your child. I look forward to developing an on-going and open relationship with you. If you would like more information about me, please check out my video at http://onmotionmedia.com/bridget.
I am working with The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh, a licensed adoption agency. Please feel free to contact them at 1.800.961.7704. A counselor can be reached 24 hours a day.
Thank you so much,
Bridget
