REQUEST A HOME STUDY

Even if you don't use our agency for a full-service adoption, you can choose to have your family study conducted by a social worker from The Children's Home of Pittsburgh. The Children’s Home can conduct your family study whether you are pursing domestic or international adoption.

In Pennsylvania, all adoptive families are legally required to obtain an approved family study, also called a home study or family profile. A family study is required for international adoption, private adoption, and out-of-state adoption.

During a family study, one of our licenses social workers will create a document with your individual and/or family history, along with other state-required information. This document is used by the courts to approve your adoption. The process will also prepare you for your adoption by means of counseling and support, as needed.

Our social workers conduct family studies and submit them to the appropriate court, agency, or attorney. Family studies can generally be completed within six weeks after all application materials are completed and submitted to The Children's Home.

The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh’s fee for a family study, for either a domestic or international adoption is $1,500. The Children's Home also does updates and reports for existing family studies.
